Extensive research and study of the original façade was required to find the original details of the façade, which was largely constructed out of cast-iron, topped by a bracketed sheet metal cornice. The building is six stories high with eleven bays on the north side, six bays on the east side and one curved corner bay.
Paint samples were taken and analyzed by Façade Consultants International, Inc. In order to determine the original color of the façade. Original details of the building were recorded and re-constructed wherever possible. Some of the missing elements were cast directly out of the existing original pieces, others were interpreted and re-built entirely from the historical data obtained from the foundry records and drawings of the building components of this period. Replicas were produced from fiberglass and steel-bondo for the higher levels of the façade while the ground floor column bases and capitals were re-build from steel plates of appropriate gauge to simulate the existing architectural details.
Subsequently, deteriorating bullet glass sidewalks and steps were restored after precise measurements and making molds from original profiles by Allen Ironworks and Bama Foundry in Talledega and Montgomery Alabama.
